Boating is a summer sport! But in winter we often prefer winter activities. Nevertheless, every year we treat ourselves to an exceptional experience – New Year’s Eve rafting in the Váh River. This year we celebrated the 21st year and finally enjoyed the beautiful winter atmosphere!
As every year we met in Koplotovce in the ceramic workshop of Miro Hrnčar. From there we moved to the starting point in Sokolovce. After preparing and tying up the catamarans, we hit the water at noon. The old Váh riverbed has a year-round biological minimum, which guarantees enough water for rafting. Moreover, this stretch runs away from civilization, allowing us to fully enjoy nature and tranquility. You can continue rafting all the way to Sered. The whole section Sokolovce – Sereď is 32km long, it is very nice. We definitely recommend it to everybody to take it sometime.
This year brought a few changes. We remember the most numerous years, when there were more than 70 of us. However, this year was intimate – only 14 paddlers participated. We replaced the traditional rafts with catamarans made from plastic canoes. Given the lower level of the Váh, this choice proved ideal, as catamarans can more easily handle the shallows.
We finished the rafting again in Koplotovce, where in the prepared ceramic workshop we enjoyed cabbage soup, beans and enjoyed the pleasant music and atmosphere.
